10.10.06 - eScan Wins Another Clean Sweep with VB100%

eScan AntiVirus and Content Security from MicroWorld Technologies has bagged the VB100% recognition yet again. For a product that continuously innovates and evolves many steps ahead of the present day security solutions and malware writers alike, this award comes as a greatly valued approval for its ever improving quality and performance.

The UK based Virus Bulletin Organization is a widely respected name in quality Assessment of AntiVirus products worldwide. VB100% is awarded to those Security Solutions that live up to the multi-parameter testing standards of its product analysis. By scoring 100% in all departments of Testing Criteria, eScan stands tall as a trusted Protective Gear for MicroWorld's rapidly expanding client base.

As a comprehensive Threat Identification and Prevention software for information systems, eScan scans and safeguards all inbound and outbound, Mail and Web Traffic. The product offers Real-Time protection against a varied rang eof online threats like Viruses, Worms, Backdoors, Spyware, Adware, Rootkits, Trojans, Trojan Downloaders, Trojan Clickers, Keyloggers, System Hacking, Spam, Phishing, Privacy related issues and Objectionable Content.

"The AntiVirus System of eScan is the fastest and earliest in providing protection against new and emerging Virus types, germinating on a daily basis," Manoj Mansukhani, Head - Technology & Marketing of MicroWorld, points out.

"We have also developed a sophisticated Behavior and Intention analysis method to tackle future threats and disguised malware, with a proven track record of highest precision. The threat detection system works on our unique MWL (MicroWorld Winsock Layer) Technology, enabling malware protection at the Network Layer, a first of its kind in the world."

For Spam Control and Content Security, eScan employs multiple technologies like Real-time Black List, Gray Listing, MX/A DNS Record Verification, Reverse DNS and Sender Policy Framework. A newly developed technology by MicroWorld Labs named Non Intrusive Learning Patterns (NILP), works on the principles of Artificial Intelligence in creating an adaptive, self-learning mechanism to identify and block Spam and Phishing mails.

"I'm thankful for the fact we are in an industry where performance evaluation is an extremely objective and sharp process. No matter what technology goes into your product, what counts at the end of the day is how your system fairs against a wide spectrum of malware threats and how much justice do you do to the faith placed on you. More than anything else, this recognition from VB100% inspires us to continue to defy the present and define the future," affirms Govind Rammurthy, CEO, MicroWorld Technologies.

06.04.06 - Is Bill Gates is sharing his fortune?

Sorry, Microsoft and AOL have not merged yet, nor has Bill Gates decided to share his fortune with folks who forward such chain emails till date.

Michigan headquartered MicroWorld Technologies Inc., inventor of revolutionary concept in scanning Internet traffic on real-time basis, urges email users receiving such unwanted and often excessive Spam emails to:

1)Delete messages with obvious or strange looking headers (often showing as a mixed up jumble of letters)
2)Not to reply to these emails, even if it says unsubscribe as this is how they verify they've reached an active email user
3)Not to buy anything they advertise or pass on chain letters as that keeps them in business
4)Not to open attachments to emails that you are unsure about
5)Keep their Content Security softwares updated.

Analysis in past has revealed that a small firm with 500 employees could be losing around £3,300 a month in lost productivity because of junk e-mails. The cost doubles for a business with 1,000 staff, rising to £32,771 for one with 5,000.

In one of the American surveys, email Spam is found to be the No. 1 technology time waster. Apart from pornography, it is found that the most common Spam messages to reach consumer’s in-boxes are about refinancing, credit counseling and sexual enhancement products.

Those receiving such fake mails, must not forward it to their friends and colleagues. Forwarding unsolicited chain letters waste time and bandwidth. And many times these fake emails are boosted with attractive attachments which try to capture human mentality by encouraging users to make them executed by demonstrating obscene content or famous ongoing events links etc. and thus prove fatal for the computer system.

In the beginning of this year, Kamasutra Worm payload triggering alert had filled almost all news releases. "16 January 2006 when we at MicroWorld Technologies Inc. first reported this Worm with Obscene mail content, it was great time fighting to resolve this threat as almost all Content Security softwares get disabled once the computer gets infected. We immediately reverse engineered the activity and came up with minor change in our Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware Toolkit Utility (MWAV 8.x) to withstand the threat unlike providing a new patch", says Aneesh Paliwal, Security Analyst at MicroWorld. With more research results, predictions were released for the payload of Kamasutra to be triggered with system date as 3rd for the already infected computers, and so it became a big picture, but fortunately the activity of wiping of key files from once infected system on 3rd of the month was found almost null across the globe. "The need of the time is to reverse engineer and understand all possibilities and analyse all probabilities once a new threat is identified and to co-relate its activity with existing threats as the 3rd of the System Date could have been 30th and 31st of the month also", says Aneesh and it is a true fact that there were some computers victim of being wiped away due to Kamasutra on 3rd February including well protected software firms in India.

So, never forward a Hoax mail which blackmail you emotionally as " Make A Wish Foundation, has agreed to donate 7 cents to cure baby suffering from Cancer for every time this message is sent on", simply delete it.

02.03.06 - eScan 2006 Wins the Quality Assurance of VB100%

‘eScan 2006’ from MicroWorld Technologies has passed the VB100% test with Virus Bulletin Organization. The new power-packed version of eScan is generating world wide interest while living up to rigorous standards of performance and accuracy at all levels.

Virus Bulletin Organization, based in UK, is one of the most revered testing bodies in software industry in general, and security firms in particular. The VB 100% Award is given to those products which pass the stringent testing done at the Quality Assurance body.

There are 3 major criteria to go through in order to win this coveted award. One, the product under testing, detects all viruses ‘in the wild’ during both on-demand and on-access scanning. Two, it generates ‘no false positives’ when scanning a set of clean files. Three, the solution must fulfill these standards in its default state.

VB 100% award is a great honor and recognition for our relentless pursuit of excellence, while it’s worthwhile to note that earlier versions of eScan too had won the same quality stamp. Software testing for us, is a continuous process deployed at all levels. Once a new feature is added, we put it through a functionality test, usability test and scalability test. Only after it gives excellent results in all three rounds, do we release that feature.” says Govind Rammurthy, CEO, MicroWorld Technologies.

MicroWorld has developed three major security products: eScan, MailScan and eConceal. eScan is a comprehensive antivirus and Content Security solution designed and developed to provide enterprises and personal computers with essential protection against Viruses, Spyware, Adware, Malware, Keyloggers, Hackers, Spammers, privacy related issues and objectionable content.

MailScan is the total Content Security and Traffic Scanning software for Mail Servers that checks the content in e-mails and its attachments for viruses and other online threats. The new offer from MicroWorld, eConceal Firewall, is a comprehensive enterprise-class firewall under beta testing.

"Right from day one, MicroWorld has believed in consistent innovation and differential thinking. Our products work with MWL Technology so that we can defeat malware at the Winsock layer itself, saving us the need to fight it out at the application level. Besides, our solutions employ sophisticated algorithms to find out newer and disguised malice." explains Govind Rammurthy, about the thought process that goes behind their products.

Ultimately, MicroWorld’s endeavor is to provide total security solutions tailored for different scenarios and varying customer needs. For sure, every recognition from globally valued standards, is an impetus for the security firm in that direction.

23.01.06 - 'ErrorSafe' Suite Fools and Pesters Users

Ever seen horror movies with a chain of serial possessions? You never know who's possessed and who's not. Before you could wink an eye, the lead lady of the movie becomes a ghost! The story of trouble fixers, registry cleaners and such innumerable "one click, all clear" wonders are no different. Many of them are spywares and adwares themselves in the clothing of perfect solutions to your problems. "ErrorSafe" is one such adware MicroWorld has detected.

The stylishly designed website of 'ErrorSafe', which looks very much like an official Microsoft website, uses Windows XP design elements all around, with some glassy buttons and bars. Windows XP logo is cleverly displayed on the product box claiming the platform compatibility! Contact information on the website speaks nothing about the address and location of the company. Home page reads that it's an "All-In-One-Suite" that provides complete professional system optimization, protection and recovery solution to fix your computer problem. Once downloaded, it starts displaying a myriad of annoying pop-up ads on affected PCs. ErrorSafe's behavior includes using confusing ads, wrong information, false positives and uncloseable message boxes. The problem has just begun!

This adware automatically gives error messages about severe computer threats even when the program is not running. This way, ErrorSafe gives an impression that it has nothing to do with these messages. It is a sophisticated program and can evade detection by normal adware and spyware inspectors. Most popup blockers are unable to stop the pop-ups engineered by ErrorSafe as they are created at the Operating System level.

WinFixer is another dubious program of the same nature and tribe of ErrorSafe. It has a very similar website, only difference being, it's in complete red where ErrorSafe is all blue! MicroWorld experts are currently studying the components of ErrorSafe and its ramifications.

MicroWorld products eScan and MailScan are highly powerful and extremely effective against spywares and adwares with their very large database of such malice. Apart from getting updated every hour, it blocks all programs that looks suspicious in its purpose, while informing you of the same. MicroWorld advises its users to update their software regularly to thwart threats of this nature. Incase one has already downloaded this program, the MWAV toolkit can be used to detect and remove same.

MicroWorld are the developers of the world's first Real-Time Anti-Virus and Content Security software eScan for desktops and servers. Its communication security software, MailScan is the first comprehensive e-mail scanner for your SMTP/POP3 Mail Server. MicroWorld Winsock Layer (MWL) is the revolutionary technology underlying these products, powering them to several certifications and awards by some of the most prestigious testing bodies, notable among them being Virus Bulletin, Checkmark, TUCOWS, Red Hat Ready, and Novell Ready. Combining their powerful scanner with MWL technology, MicroWorld solutions provide a Real-Time Proactive security for your systems.

03.11.05 - AnyDVD tackles Sony DRM Rootkit Virus

Since March 2005, Sony BMG is using a rootkit-based DRM system on some newer audio CDs. This DRM system is a serious hazard to each Windows based PC. Well known websites like F-Secure.com and SysInternals.com (URLs below) are confirming this exposure.

If AnyDVD is installed and active on a PC, this new so-called "Sony DRM Rootkit Virus" has no access to the operating system and the affected audio CD appears unprotected regardless!

"What the heck Sony thought to themselves," SlySoft's CEO Giancarlo Bettini was kidding, "maybe they wanna build their own bot net?".

This "anti rootkit protection" is not a new function of AnyDVD, rather it is the nature of AnyDVD to filter all undesired stuff between a CD/DVD drive and the operating system. It is just one example, how well AnyDVD's option to "Remove CD Digital Audio Protection" is working.

17.10.05 - Web lifts profit line

As reported in The Sunday Times on Sunday, October 16 2005:

The internet is crucial for small businesses, with nine out of 10 small-to-medium enterprises connected to it.

The 2005 Sensis e-Business Report shows SMEs are using the internet to increase their bottom line and compete more effectively with bigger businesses.

The survey showed regional businesses were driving internet growth, with 86 percent now connected to the net - a 5 percent increase this year.

The percentage of SMEs with a website was also increasing, up from 45 percent to 47 percent, and a further 14 percent of small businesses intended to get a website in the next 12 months.

More than 60 percent of small businesses also reported their website had improved the effectiveness of their businesses.

Report author Christena Singh said the internet was being used for much more than email.

"SMEs are increasingly looking to the internet to generate revenue, reduce operating costs and to enable them to compete more effectively with bigger business," she said.

"A lot of SMEs are having problems competing with big business and the internet lets them compete with big business and overseas because they've been able to reach a wider market."

Ms Singh said small businesses did not have the resources of their larger competitors. Small businesses were getting a return on investment of between 10 and 20 percent.

The finance and insurance sector has the highest rate of internet connectivity at 99 percent.

Ms Singh said the uptake of broadband internet connections had also accelerated this year.

05.10.05 - Antivirus and Content Security software developed in India being adapted by ISP's Internationally

MicroWorld the developers of Antivirus and Content Security software based out of Mumbai, India have bagged yet another ISP in Philippines, Inter-Island Information Systems, Inc. (Tri-Isys Internet) the 2nd largest ISP in Philippines. They will offer MicroWorld's antivirus and content security software eScan to their subscribers. Inter-Island an ISP, which are also into the gaming industry found out that their customers were facing constant virus threats. They wanted to give quality service and a virus free gaming experience at an affordable price to their customers, that is when Inter-Island decided to go for that extra mile and give their users the protection they needed and explore newer opportunities and tried MicroWorld's eScan range of security product.

Inter-Island was extremely satisfied with MicroWorld's range of security products and decided to tie up with MicroWorld as they realised that eScan-detected viruses which was even overlooked by other antivirus products. They came to the conclusion that eScan was the best when it came to their customer security. eScan turned out to be a cost-effective solution and offered 24 x 7 free online support to their customers.

"I am totally delighted by your product and I am sure, so will my customers" says Scott Gonzalo - VP, Purchasing of Inter-island on signing up with MicroWorld.

"ISP's prefer eScan for their customers as it provides a total security solution for its customers. In addition to checking for viruses, eScan also provides the customer with content scanning, Spam blocker, POP-UP blocker and more.", said Mr. Govind Rammurthy, CEO, MicroWorld. In a maturing industry like security, uniqueness is very important. "MicroWorld's antivirus and content security products are widely accepted in the Intermnational front." says Mr Sunil kripalani VP ( Global Sales and Marketing). We are planning to start a wide range of activities where we would be targeting the ISP's in India and deliver them with solutions that have been accepted Internationally.
